Moonlight Movie or Comic Books Could Happen

Moonlight executive producer/writer Harry Werksmen was on hand at the Saturn Awards last week to accept Moonlight‘s “Best DVD Release” award and told SciFiWire there’s still hope for a future for Moonlight:

“Well, we were setting up in the end of our first season that there was a coming war,” Werksman said in an exclusive interview at the awards ceremony in Burbank, Calif. “There was the family from which Coraline came, and it was a royal bloodline of vampires that Mick had been brought into, very much unwanted on his part. I think what we were going to try and do is to have the movie encapsulate the entire second season of the coming war.”

The series chronicled the casework of detective Mick St. John (Alex O’Loughlin), who could solve crimes committed by vampires. He was dealing with his own issues with an ex, Coraline (Shannyn Sossamon), who turned him without his consent, and a 400-year-old vamp (Jason Dohring), who butted in with underworld politics.

Of course, a movie would require the entire cast to return, and after the show’s cancellation, they all booked new gigs. “You know, unfortunately, I think that everyone has kind of moved on,” Werksman said.

One medium that does not need actors, however, is comic books. “No, they don’t need actors,” Werksman said. “We could always do comic books, graphic novels, that’s true.”

A movie is not out of the question, though, because lead actor O’Loughlin has told Werksman he’s still interested. “I know I talked to Alex just a couple weeks ago, after Three Rivers got picked up, and I was congratulating him,” he said. “He’s like, ‘When are we going to do the movie?’ I said, ‘I don’t know, man. Any time you’re ready.’”

  1. Ahhhh, this is INDEED good news. I wouldn’t discount any type of future for Moonlight, be it a movie, or a continuation of the series. Alot hinges on “Three Rivers”, and getting the cast back….which I know is a possibility. $$$ talks in Hollywood

    Thanks for this post!

  2. Thanks for the info – anything Moonlight would make me happy, though it is still such a shame that the series didn’t go on. I am happy for Alex and looking forward to all that he is doing – TR, TBUP, etc – but I know how much Alex loved playing Mick and how much he loved the show and the rest of the cast. He still loves us, his fans, too. Anything that Alex decides to do is fine with me, and I know I will love it – but a return of Moonlight, even as a movie, would be awesome.
Thanks so much for the post and for all the updates you give us at ML Det!

  3. I would so love to see a Moonlight movie. Ever since we realized there would be no more series I’ve been pushing for a movie. What does it hurt to write WB and let them know we want one? Now Alex and Harry has been stirring on the subject as well! I voted for the Saturn Award for Moonlight’s DVD. I’m glad to see that there are still many out there who loved Moonlight and want to see more. Thanks for posting and keeping us updated!

  4. This is the best news I have heard since they cancelled Moonlight. The dumbest move ever made as far as I am concerned. By this time they would have had a ratings bonanza and any and all doubts about the show would have been eradicated. I love this series and each and every actor involved with it. Just go ahead and make the movie and stop keeping all of Alex’s fans on pins and needles. It will be a sure thing no doubt about it.
