‘Moonlight’ May Still Live: The Latest News – UPDATED (AGAIN) 05.14.08

By MrsStJohn • May 13th, 2008 • Category: lead story, renewal

Although we reported earlier today that CBS appears to have canceled Moonlight, news about the show’s status has been coming in so fast today that we fear updates are getting lost in the mail. Here’s the latest information we have:

  • Various media outlets are reporting that CBS has canceled Moonlight.
  • CBS has NOT officially canceled the show; they will announce their official 2008-2009 schedule tomorrow, Wednesday, May 14. UPDATE 05.14.08: Unfortunately, Moonlight is not on the fall schedule released by CBS today. We are now focusing our efforts on showing support to Warner Bros. and Media Rights Capitol (contact info below).
  • Fans are calling and emailing CBS with our (polite) requests that they renew the show.
  • Fans are emailing Warner Bros. to tell them that we’ll follow the show to a new network if necessary.
  • Joel Silver and everyone who works on the show know that the fans are working together to fight for our show. They are also working on alternate plans.
  • Reports are now coming in that Moonlight might move to the CW on Sunday nights. This is a very new development and one we’re watching closely.

Here are the phone numbers and email addresses to contact.

As always, we urge Moonlighters to be respectful and polite in their communications. Remember that we want to show support for our show above all else.

UPDATED 05.14.08 6:15PM CST: We are aware of the articles out there that are reporting that Moonlight is completely dead, that we need to quit calling these companies, that no wait there’s still a chance, etc. It’s enough to give us all migraines, but we’re refusing to say it’s over until we hear it from Warner Bros., the studio that produces the show. We know that they’re fighting for it and we plan to keep supporting them as long as it takes.

We also wanted to apologize for not being able to respond to everyone’s emails, comments and forum posts as quickly as usual. Both of us have received more than 1,000 emails about Moonlight in the past few days, not to mention the hundreds of comments and posts from fans. I hope everyone understands that while we’d like to reply right away, we’re focused on other efforts at the moment and have to spend our time there. Many of you have written to say how much you appreciate this site, for which we thank you. No matter the outcome of this current battle, we don’t plan to close up shop any time soon. We hope you’ll keep coming back to visit.

  1. I WANT CW to take Moonlight. They ARE a COOL and HIP network. And Moonlight is COOL and HIP. CW has Smallville, Supernatural, etc. Secretly, I was praying Moonlight would move to CW. And I also want Ghost Whisperer to move to CW. CBS doesn’t know what to do with their hit shows. It seems like once they have a hit show, they turn around and cancel it. Either way, I really don’t care….All I care is for Moonlight to stay on the air — no matter what network takes it.

….and you know we’ll all follow our Moonlight cast.

  2. I would love for Moonlight to continue on for many more seasons. I would however be sad if it went to CW as I cannot get CW in my area. I support any effort to keep the show on the air though and will cheer from the sidelines, however, in my selfishness I hope that CBS picks it back up. You don’t know what’cha got there CBS. Please listen to the fans!

  3. [...] if you’d like have your say about Moonlight’s cancellation, visit Moonlight Fans and Moonlight Detective, and join the fight to save the show at Moonlight [...]

  4. The “feedback” area on the CW website seems to have been disabled !

  5. Oops, I mean on Warner Bros website, the feedback button doesn’t seem to be working.

  6. This is good news to wake up to. These past 2 days have been really depressing. I really, really hope CW picks it up. My daughter and I watch Smalleville and Supernatural, Moonlight would be so perfect . Supernatural and Moonlight together, it couldn’ get better than that.. The CW will have a instant hit on their hands they won’t even know what hit them. Plus CW a cool station and caters alot of different ages groups. CBS lost a good thing,

  7. i am doing everything that i can i was only able to call cbs 2 times yesterday and i told them how i felt but i haven’t heard anything yet. moving moonlight on the CW is a great idead but on a sunday night that is not so cool because fridays were the best. well talk which day moonlight should come later. i hope the CW will get it

  8. Shinster the Warner Bros Feedback link seems to be working for me now. Maybe give it another try? :o )

  9. CBS doesn’t know what they have and hopefully someone else will see the value and entertainment Moonlight brings! Here’s hoping Friday isn’t the last time we see a new episode of the show!!!

  10. This so sad, I am writing them and my family and I are calling them as well, we need to give them as much as possible to show our support.

CBS is very poor in their decision and Moonlight is the only reason I watch the channel, CW would be great, the night is not as good but at least if it survives I love CW. They need it anyway with Smallville going down with most of the main characters leaving, what’s the point. I am so sad as Moonlight and Smallville were my faves and they are dead now but hopefully Moonlight will come back from the dead.

I am writing the CW too.

  11. Just saw on the CBS Moolight Community Board that Nina Tassler said, “CW is not interested” in Moonlight. Someone had cut/pasted a blog of some meeting at CBS (wheither this is legit or not, I don’t know). I think this is under ‘Bad News’. IF CW is not, I’m hoping that Joel Silver will approach USA, Sci-Fi or some other network. I’d HATE to see this series go down the drain.

  12. This sucks. :/

But I do think it would be hilarious if the CW takes it up and it becomes bigger than it is already.

  13. is there an email for keith Sample at Media Capital?

  14. I’m just sick with disgust with CBS right now… I’m doing all I can do, calling, emailing, etc.
I hope another station picks up Moonlight… but I live in Canada, and I don’t know if I can get CW here – maybe on one of the upper digital cable channels I haven’t found yet… If Moonlight does get picked up by CW, somebody please spread the news when the time comes, and hopefully I can get the show up here too.
Man, we’ve got a long fight ahead of us… we can’t give this one up!

  15. I emailed the WB. I pray one of these stations picks it up XD

  16. Just wanted to say that I will keep coming to this website for all the updates. I have truely enjoyed all the great “stuff”
here. I just read Alex O’loughlin”s message and isn”t that just typical that the cast is the last to know! I imagine that the
construction crew/demolition crew knew first. Personally I think some of the “nuts ” sent when Jerico went off the air
went to some people’s heads. Next time let”s send a food that helps boost the IQ. All kidding aside I have a few theories
on why this all happened and I think it might have something to do with Speed Racer doing so poorly at the box office.
Maybe we should all be going to see this movie. It’s a thought as nothing else makes any sense. I’ll follow “MOONLIGHT”
wherever it shines! Thanks again for all the updates.

  17. I love MOONLIGHT it is my Favorite show. I have contacted everyone that this site has recommended. But I feel so devastated… I hope MOONLIGHT gets renewed for a second season, I will follow the show to whatever network picks it up. I can not believe that CBS could give up on such an AMAZING show!!! It has won it’s time slot every Friday.

It was so nice to see what Alex said, when I read it, I felt his pain and disappointment. I feel so sad and truly horrible for the ENTIRE cast and crew…

I WILL NOT GIVE UP ON THIS SHOW. IT IS THE BEST SHOW ON TV END OF STORY, AND NEEDS TO BE FOUGHT FOR:

I will be a MOONLIGHT fan until the end….

  18. I read Alex’s post and wanted to just sit and cry. For CBS to cancel this Gem of a series with the fan base that it has is beyond anyone’s comprehension. The viewers are there, the ratings are there. So we have to ask ourselves why is it cancelled. There is something that we don’t know, and of course CBS is not going to enlighten us, because I am sure they don’t have a feasible reason other than they want to rub our noses into our efforts to save the show.
WB may be the light at the end of the tunnel but what about the other networks like Fox, SciFi, TNT, and of course ABC and NBC. I don’t think we need to just sit back and wait to see what WB is going to do we need to go on a campaign to contact all of the the other potential networks. Can someone come up with the contact information for all of the other potential networks.
Warner Brothers has to know we will follow the show anywhere it will go, they just need to make an agreement with another network. CBS doesn’t want it that is there loss. We need to quit wasting our efforts on CBS. My sister called them today and, although they didn’t hang up on her they wouldn’t even talk to her once she mentioned Moonlight. Like I said their loss.

  19. I was very disappointed to hear about this. This show is one of the best I have seen in years, very original and captivating. I seriously hope that the CW decides to pick it up, it’s too good of a show to be cancelled. I believe that CBS is making a huge mistake. I read Alex’s message, and I can honestly say that it was very moving and I cannot understand why CBS would want to cancel a show with someone as talented and dedicated as he is to this show. The entire cast is extremely talented and unique. They each bring something to the table, and CBS should be proud to have a show as amazing as this one with such dedicated actors. These actors truely believe in this show, as do the show’s loyal fanbase across America. If CBS is willing to let such an amazing gift slip through their fingertips then I sincerely hope that another network realizes how lucky they would be to get Moonlight and take the chance. These brilliant actors deserve a chance to work and give the fans what they want, which is MORE MOONLIGHT!!!

  20. In addition to my last post, I would absolutely LOVE for the CW to pick up Moonlight. I watch Supernatual, and believe that Moonlight will be a great addition to the CW’s schedule. I, like many loyal Moonlight fan, am willing to follow the show to any network that is lucky enough to pick up this refreshingly original and talent filled program.
