Moonlight Canceled? – UPDATED
By MoonstruckLiz • May 13th, 2008 • Category: lead storyIt is with the saddest and heaviest heart that we bring word that it appears Moonlight has been canceled and will not be back for another season on CBS.
CBS has officially let veteran Moonlight know that it’s been cancelled. It was a no-go on a possible 13-back order for mid-season.
I’m told CBS today has officially let these veteran shows know they’re renewed: Old Christine (WBT), Rules of Engagement (Sony/CBS Paramount), How I Met Your Mother (20th Century Fox TV), The Unit (20th Century Fox TV) ~ Deadline Hollywood
There are no words…
UPDATED 05.13.08: The producers have released the following note:
It’s true. We found out about an hour ago that Moonlight has been officially canceled.
We are truly saddened by the news and are sorry that we won’t get the chance to live with our wonderful characters and follow them on their adventures for a second season.
We really want to thank all our loyal fans for their undying love and support of the show. We never would have made it this far without them.
In vampire solidarity…rah, rah!
Gabrielle Stanton & Harry Werksman
We aren’t giving up yet, however. Multiple fansites are working together, via Moonlight United, and with Warner Bros. to see if we can convince them to take the show to another network. Keep sharing your ideas of what to do and we will post as soon as a plan takes shape.
UPDATED 5.13.08 5:35 p.m. CST: We have heard that Joel Silver’s office has been contacted. They are aware of the fans’ efforts and are busy working on a “Plan B”, which will surely be revealed as soon as they are able to. Don’t give up, Moonlighters!
Updated 05.13.08 9:35PM CST: Hope springs eternal! The latest from Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood Daily:
EXCLUSIVE: I’ve just been told by an insider that “there is a chance, only a chance” that Media Rights Capital which will be programming Sunday’s two hours on the CW “may elect to take Moonlight as one of those two hours”. This is developing to be quite a behind-the-scenes drama because the order came from Warner Bros TV this afternoon to start tearing the Moonlight sets down. But with 8 million viewers when it aired on CBS before being cancelled, Moonlight could wind up as the most watched show on the CW. (Gossip Girl has only 2.5 mil…) Stay tuned.
Is this Plan B? We’ll keep you updated!
MoonstruckLiz is is still waiting for "Whiteout".

Is there any way that another network would pickup Moonlight? Also will Moonlight continue in the UK?
Obviously, I am extremely irratated at CBS about this. I don’t know all the behind the scenes reasons for their
decision. I’m sure their are many but it is a big mistake for such a quality show with such a hugh and devoted fan
base to be dismissed so easily. Anyway, I hope you will let us know anything else that develops with Moonlight and
also any other show or movie where we can watch the cast members; also any new projects they will eventually be
doing. Now I am going to go cry somewhere.
eVERYONE CALL, CBS IS TAKING ALL COMMENTS TO RENEW. ONE WOMAN SAID SHE NEVER HAS HAD SO MANY CALLS ABOUT A SHOW. KEEP IT UP. THE 212975-3247 AND 323-575-2345 ARE WORKING BEST
Well for what it’s worth I called the 323-575-2325 no. and left my comment. Hope they get about 10,000,000 of those
“babies”.
I can’t believe CBS did it to me again. First Threshold and now Moonlight. A sci-fi girl just doesnt have a chance with CBS. I thought this show would last for sure seeing as it was so very well made. The characters were likeable and gorgeous. The sets beautiful, I mean just everything clicked which is rare for a first season. I am not giving up hope however, and please tell us if we can do more to save the show. But if it is the final swan song for Moonlight, it will be missed.
I gave my feed back on http://www.cbs.com . CBS should not have let moonlight go. Its a great show and now I have nothing to watch on Fridays. I curse CBS for doing this to Moonlight.
Be nice, be courteous, and please keep calling! Leave a message on their Audience Services line, 818-655-1797. Nothing is official until tomorrow after 4:00 P.M. when they announce the fall line-up. So, please, call and show your support of the show and the network!
I gave my positive and professional comments to the 323 number and tried to leave Ms. Tassler an e-mail this morning. The CBS folks were very nice and gracious.
It makes me so sad and honestly, this is the only show that I watch on TV being a busy mom of two, in graduate school, work full time, you know the drill. It is a delicious escape!
Please, please – those that have been involved in the show (Alex, Sophia, literally everyone), you are so talented – we hope that CBS brings us better news tomorrow OR you find a new home on another network. Thanks again for doing a great job of entertaining us!
danm cbs danm cbs danm them to hell i was on here less than an hour ago i was going to say soemthing but i needed an hour to cool off after hearing the news from this site, moonlight fans site and moonlight yahoo. now what will we do after the new episode and after the ringer and B.C. what will happen now some of the fans on yahoo are saying to ask moonlight to go on a different channel. like on fox, cw or fx. most say that the scifi channel should take it. but even if that would be so how could cbs do this so many fans loved this show. it won every friday and it won the peoples choice award what will we all do now?
I AM SO SAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m devastated by this! It’s a sad, sad day…..
One more thing – I have personally enjoyed the history and intellectual banter that has been a part of this show! I never was interested in vampires before this series – but it is fascinating now! Thanks again and again, Moonlight!
I am heartbroken. Once I dried my eyes, I called CBS and also sent them an email expressing my disappointment. I can’t give up without trying. I love this show. What could CBS possibly have planned for Friday nights…… more The Price is Right? I am surprised to hear this news, since they did win the timeslot for the last 3 weeks. Is there any chance that the producers would approach another network? I am very sad.
I am so sad right now. I hope and pray another network will take a chance on “Moonlight”. It happened with Buffy didn’t it?
*sad*
I am truly sad and can’t believe that CBS would cancel the first really great show in a long time. I have never lobbied for a show before and never will again. It apparently doesn’t work. I love Moonlight and will follow it to any channel. The actors are wonderful together and Alex O. is a true find! I know we will see more of him, but really like him in Moonlight.
Ugh, I really hope that they bring Moonlight back. They didn’t even get the benefit of a full, uninterrupted season, and considering how well they did with that.. Well. They deserve a second season. I called CBS, sent out 10 emails, and have been leaving feedback on CBS.com and WB.com like crazy. BRING BACK TEH MICK!!! *shakes fist*
I’m not giving up hope yet, but still saddened. I’ve watched every episode on my ipod since I could start downloading off itunes. Hoping that CW picks it up – if their most popular shows is gossip girls w/ a fan base of over 2million, then the 8million+ viewers from Moonlight would really let CW take off – voicemail, email, ipetitions…I’ve hit them all!
VAMP SOLIDARITY – RAH RAH RAH!
I just happened on this site today as I had been talking about Moonlight to a friend and how HOT Alex is and I still can’t believe what I’ve read that it’s been cancelled. There is so much other TRASH on TV these days how can they cancel this brilliant show?! My friend doesn’t have cable and was hoping it would arrive on terrestrial TV as it was such a good series. Is there anything anyone can do from UK to save it? Please let me know and I’ll join the crusade!
PLease Media Rights Capital put moonlight on the CW.
This isn’t right, this isn’t fair. Us MILLIONS of people finally find a TV show that is /worth/ watching, one that isn’t trash, one that inspires you to be something you never thought you could be, something that lifted everyone’s spirits, something that made me personally want to love all over again. CBS cannot take this away from us. And if it does go to another network, it will hopefully go to one that is on antenna so that EVERYONE can share in the joy and brillance of Moonlight. I will be sending some very heartfelt e-mails, and make many many calls. That is for sure. No one give up hope. “Moonlight” IS WORTH IT, just DON’T give up!
A “Moonlight” Addict!
